Equipment for recycling and waste size reduction

Waste as a raw material is not homogeneous, which is why every line is engineered according to what exactly comes in and what is required at the outlet. Vecoplan AG supplies the equipment for size reduction, and Amandus Kahl for pelleting and granulation.

MATERIALS

What is processed

A different technical solution is engineered for each type of input material. The aim is always a defined final product with the appropriate characteristics.

Wood

Pulpwood and firewood, sawmill residue, pallets, wooden crates, offcuts of MDF and OSB boards and chipboard, waste from joinery and parquet workshops.

Municipal and urban waste

Municipal, urban, industrial and other waste, with separation of inert matter and preparation for alternative fuel.

Paper

Newspapers and print, reel paper, folders, CDs. The screens allow separation into up to four fractions over an area of up to 9 m².

Plastics

Bags, pipes of various dimensions, boxes, films, nets, mouldings. Plastic is a valuable raw material once it is properly prepared.

Scrap tyres

Granulation by ambient grinding, without nitrogen, granulate 0.1–8 mm, free of metal and textile.

Sludge and compost

Pelleting of sewage and industrial sludge, and processing of compost into NPK-enriched fertiliser.

Granulating scrap tyres, step by step

The Kahl ambient grinding process is an alternative to the usual cryogenic process with nitrogen, saving up to €80 per tonne.

    Pre-grinding

    The delivered tyres are ground down to a size of 50 × 50 mm.

  2. 2

    First granulation

    A press working on the mill principle reduces the pieces to ≤ 20 mm. A belt magnet removes the steel wire, and the first screening takes out the fines.

    Second granulation

    The coarse fraction goes to a second size reduction, where the material is brought down to 0.1–8 mm.

  4. 4

    Sorting and screening

    A three-stage process separates the fractions. Cylindrical magnets remove metal, and the final screening is done by gravity and zig-zag separators. The final product is packed in bags.

Shredders

Vecoplan has been building size reduction machines for four decades. Single- or twin-shaft designs, hydraulic drive, damage protection and a construction built for continuous operation. Chippers and shredders deliver a homogeneous, standardised mass, either as a fuel or as preparation for pelleting and briquetting.

Tyre granulation lines

The flat die press works on the mill principle: compact, robust and flexible. It is distinguished by long tool life, a long interval between two re-sharpenings and granulation with only two lines, without waste.

Conveying and separation

Flat and trough belts designed for quick and reliable cleaning, with a robust construction and low-cost maintenance. Alongside them come screw conveyors, magnetic drums, oscillating and star screens and units for separating inert matter.

Pellets from municipal waste as an alternative fuel

Pelleting waste and sludge

Municipal and commercial waste and plastics yield pellets or fluff of high calorific value, used as an alternative fuel. Sewage sludge is pelleted into a dust-free product, usable as a roofing material or thermal insulation. Compost is processed into NPK-enriched fertiliser.
